The Macho Giant Sword Fern is native to Florida, Louisiana, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands and can grow up to 4' tall with 6' long fronds. . It's large growth gives it an architectural flair as a specimen plant. The Macho Fern is a very resilient fern that tolerates shade and does just as well in a hanging basket, planter, or in the ground. The fern should be moved indoors to avoid frost and freezing temperatures. During dryer cooler temperatures they should be misted and kept over a small tray of water filled with pebbles so that their roots do not sit in the water. Water every 1 to 2 weeks when the top inch or two of soil is dry but do not overwater. During the growing season feed every 6 weeks with a little bit of weak liquid fertilizer. When potting up your fern you need to use a loose potting medium that retains moisture but drains well. Shipping and handling can be very tough on live plants so please be sure to open and check your plant right away. Mist the foliage and check the soil for moisture. Our plant team gives each plant a drink before they are individually shipped and wrapped so they may not need to be watered right away. We are unable to ship this plant to California due to restrictions by the California Department of Agriculture.
